Programs for Latino Middle School Students

Middle school programsSchool-Year Program

The Youth Educational Support and Success (YESS) Program provides educational, mentoring, and enrichment opportunities to students at Northwood Junior High School and their families.

The YESS program helps students to transition successfully into high school. Staff and trained volunteers work with students after school and help to provide cultural enrichment opportunities. Our team meets with school counselors, teachers, and administrators regularly to discuss individual progress and develop targeted strategies to provide additional, individualized support for students to help them reach their full potential.

In addition, the students participate in our Strengthening Emotional Life Foundations (SELF) Program, which is available to area youth through a variety of collaborative partnerships.

YESS also empowers parents to become involved in their child’s education and assume leadership roles needed to advocate for their child.

Summer Program

Our middle school and high school programs combine in the summer, providing creative and leadership-building group activities and field trips.

YESS has helped me a lot since I started middle school. It has made me more organized with my work and more responsible. It also has helped my family, because now they don’t have to worry about my work for school.
