Diane Gorman, LCSW, earned her Master’s degree from the University of Chicago. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, she has worked to promote good mental health with clients across the lifespan.
Since joining the staff of Family Service of Lake County in 2013, Diane has partnered with seniors and caregivers in Lake County who are dealing with issues that often challenge this age group: feelings of loneliness after the loss of partners and friends, chronic illness, the stress of caretaking for a spouse with a chronic illness, unresolved grief. At the first session, she begins building the therapeutic relationship by listening and finding out what the client is dealing with; Diane lets clients know they are being heard through empathetic expressions of understanding and validating their feelings. She uses solution focused and supportive therapy techniques in her work with individuals, couples and sometimes other family members.
Diane believes that by working together with her, clients find that having this safe outlet to explore their challenges and worries improves their ability to problem solve and develop the best possible solutions to produce positive outcomes.
